“Copa load of this' – notes from Chile (Pt.8)

Chile booked their place in Saturday night's Copa America final as Eduardo Vargas' brace helped the hosts overcome Peru 2-1 in Santiago last night. The former QPR loanee pounced on an Alexis pass as it came back off the post to open the scoring three minutes before half time and then smashed a 64th minute winner from long range to send the home crowd into raptures. Chile were made to work hard for their victory despite playing against 10 men for 70 minutes following a straight red card for defender Carlos Zambrano. Gary Medel's own goal on 60 minutes drew Peru level before Vargas' magic sealed his country's first appearance in a major tournament final for 28 years. (Highlights...
