Barcelona's Alex Song set for uncertain future: West Ham reluctant to make loan permanent

On-loan West Ham midfielder Alex Song is set for an uncertain future, with reports suggesting that the east London club are reluctant to make his stay a permanent one due to his drastic dip in form, according to the Daily Mail. Players coming from other leagues are usually afforded a season to settle, but given the fact that Song spent eight years at Arsenal, his plight is worrying for a club unable to take a punt on the finances a deal to bring Song to Upton Park would entail. During his time at Arsenal too, Song struggled for consistency and his erratic positioning meant that Arsene Wenger favoured a converted Mikel Arteta in the holding midfield role.
