Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli reveals Manchester United turned down the opportunity to sign him ahead of the Brazilian's move to the Emirates this summer.

Manchester United were uninterested in the opportunity to sign Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli ahead of the Brazilian's move to the Emirates this summer.

Martinelli, who joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Ituano for a fee of £6m, has scored four goals in three games for the Gunners, including a brace during Thursday's 4-0 win over Standard Liege.

United, on the other hand, stuttered to a 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar in Holland, casting further questions over the depth and quality of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's attacking options.

Speaking to ESPN, Martinelli comfirmed that he even had trials at United over a two year period, but the club opted against signing him.

"From 2015 to 2017, I went to train there [at United] four times for around 15 days at a time," he said.

"I asked to take pictures for [Patrice] Evra, [Marouane] Fellaini and others. [Paul] Pogba knew I was Brazilian and asked if everything was OK and where I played. We took a picture together."

The Red Devils came in for heavy criticism for their performance against AZ, with the club failing to register a single shot on target for the first time in their Europa League history.
