Arsenal narrow down their search for a replacement for Unai Emery after conducting preliminary interviews, according to a report.

Arsenal have reportedly narrowed down their search for a new manager after conducting preliminary interviews.

Unai Emery was sacked at the end of last month after a disappointing series of results, with Freddie Ljungberg placed in temporary charge.

The club's former midfielder has since overseen two more uninspiring performances, a 2-2 draw with Norwich City and a 2-1 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Telegraph reports that the club have now held preliminary talks with candidates who fit their brief of being an out-of-work manager who could take over quickly and lead the team until the end of the season.

Such an approach would favour the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri but limit the chances of Brendan Rodgers, Mikel Arteta or Patrick Vieira getting the job.

The recruitment process will be led by Arsenal's technical director Edu, who will be assisted by Raul Sanllehi, Vinai Venkatesham and Huss Fahmy. Owner Stan Kroenke's son Josh will sign off on the final decision.
