Atletico Madrid are expecting to sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on loan, according to a report.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly becoming increasingly confident of pulling off a loan deal for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira before the transfer deadline at the start of October.

The Uruguay international was a regular for the Gunners during the 2019-20 campaign, making 39 appearances in all competitions, but he has not been involved for Mikel Arteta's side this season.

A return to Italy, potentially with Torino, has been mentioned as a possibility, but Atletico have seemingly emerged as the favourites to sign the energetic midfielder.

According to Sky Sports News, Diego Simeone's side are expecting to reach an agreement with the Gunners over a loan deal, although the two teams are still discussing the finer details.

The report claims that Atletico could commit to a permanent transfer for Torreira next summer, but an option to buy is also a possibility to give the Spanish outfit more control.

The deal is not thought to have any relation to a potential agreement for the La Liga side's midfielder Thomas Partey, who continues to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
