Report: Runarsson to join Turkish club on loan

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alex Runarsson is set to sign a season-long loan deal with Turkish side Alanyaspor.

The Iceland international signed for the Gunners two years ago from Dijon in the aftermath of Emi Martinez’s departure for Aston Villa and made six appearances in his first season as a backup to Bernd Leno.

He was deemed surplus to requirements by the following January when the Gunners recruited Mat Ryan on a temporary deal and he’s continued to fall down the pecking order ever since.

Last summer, he moved to the Belgian side OH Leuven and made 20 appearances. That move came after a deal with another Turkish side, Altay Spor, collapsed at the last moment.

Runarsson’s departure all but confirms that Karl Hein will be the club’s third-choice keeper this season behind Matt Turner and Aaron Ramsdale.

The Estonia international was promoted to the first team a couple of weeks ago ahead of Bernd Leno joining Fulham and Arthur Okonkwo signing a loan deal with Crewe Alexandra.

Forgot all about him

Funsho Patrick

When does his contract expire? And do we even get any loan fees for him? An impulsive buy..it’s a good thing we don’t do those types of deals anymore

Emi Rates

Play well in Turkey so we get a decent fee for you in the next window.

All the best!

Arsenalfanthem

Doubt we can get a fee to be honest.

Fair enough, but he’s actually only on 15K per week.

Most sources say £40,000 a week.

Honestly thought for a sec that was Rob Holding in a keepers’ shirt.

Johnny 4 Hats

Funnily enough, after a good display at the end of training last week, Holding is now above Runarsson in the pecking order.

One of the most pointless Arsenal signings, ever

On a rating of 1 to Squillaci where would you place him?

Difficult to put at him André Santos or Richard Wright 🤔

Santos at least did have some very good moments. I can’t think he was close to our worst ever signing.

Yeah, but remember that FA Cup semi-final penalty. Arsenal legend 😉

Freekicks like this one no doubt played part in Wenger’s decision to bring him on for the last part of the season.

An established Sweden international who came with an injury that was only discovered once he was here. Good solid player throughout his entire career and a bit of a beast on set pieces. Definitely not a bad signing and the mistake was Wenger’s for not using him more.

Emi Rates

That would be Willian in my book.

Snagger

He should grab this opportunity and not let it slip through his fingers.

Rob67

It didn’t work out for him here.

But he needs to play to build up his game and recover his confidence. Let’s hope this move – if it happens – works out for him.

Jack

Legend has it that Alex is not an actual footballer but a state of mind

The Premier League is a level above where he is operating at the moment, but he is still relatively young and I hope he can carve a successful career elsewhere.

Love it that Turkish transfer rumours have finally materialised into deals this summer.

That’s fine just to get him off the books for another year, even if doubtful Alanaspor are covering his full wages.

Expected Hein would have gone out on loan again too – with Hubert Graczyk covering as #3 – but it seems Hein is currently injured.

Bellerin may be the only remaining departure left now. Unless Ainsley or Reiss get a last minute loan.

Merlin’s Panini

Good luck to him. I hope he does well and earns a permanent move elsewhere.

In other news I just saw Barca are now sniffing around Hector too but neither them or Betis will want to pay a fee. I’d still like to keep him but I’m assuming now that the contract termination route is the most likely, which is shit. If we can maybe nick another La Masia players in exchange then perhaps that could work out for us.

Why would you like to keep him, he’s our fourth choice right-back and he’s on 6 figures.
He’s bleeding big money from the club every passing week. Hopefully an exit gets sorted this week.

lonsdale

If they’re trying to get him on a free, I’d keep him, if only to make sure Barca don’t try to swindle us yet again.
If they’re willing to spend ludicrous amounts of money during a window when they have -€1bn in the bank, I think they should suck up and offer us €5mil worth of one of their frickin levers.
Heck, why not offer us 25% of their Barca Bocadillos business… bloody cheapskates.

Merlin’s Panini

Because he’s better than Cedric, and Ben White should be saved as a centre back rather than getting knackered out down the right flank. If White gets injured at right back our depth at centre back isn’t so good. Holding is decent but more of a backs to the wall type.

Merlin’s Panini

Furthermore I don’t like all this cancelling contracts stuff. It makes us look like pushovers. Barca are now demanding £23 million from Chelsea for Auba.
If clubs stop thinking we’ll cancel contracts in the end they probably start coughing up for our players again.
