Arsenal failed with an approach for Napoli star Dries Mertens this summer, according to reports in Italy. The 30-year-old was in sensational form last season and he ended the campaign with over 30 goals after being converted from a winger to a striker. The Belgian's form saw him rewarded with a new contract in May, which ties him to Napoli until June 2020. But before that, according to Calciomercato, Arsenal were trying to snap up Mertens and bring him to London.
