Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has done enough to earn a new contract with Barcelona, according to reports in Spain. The Belgian, who made 110 appearances for the Gunners in a five-year stint at the Emirates, was expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer with first-team opportunities limited under Ernesto Valverde. But despite only featuring twice since January, Vermaelen's performances for the Spanish giants have done enough to merit a new contract extension, according to Sport.
