Newcastle are reeling from the collapse of Rob Holding’s proposed move to St James’ Park from Arsenal. The centre-half was targeted for a loan deal on Tyneside as his future at the Emirates Stadium looked bleak. Mikel Arteta has added William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes to his squad for the new season, meaning he has an excess amount of defenders. To make room, Holding looked set to leave the Gunners, at least on a temporary basis. But he has since started both of Arsenal’s Premier League games against Fulham and West Ham, helping them kick off the campaign with back-to-back victories.
