Arteta makes ruthless decision while updating Arsenal's Europa League squad
Mikel Arteta has axed struggling goalkeeper Alex Runarsson from his Arsenal squad for the latter stages of the Europa League. The Gunners boss was forced to cut one non-homegrown player out of his squad for the knockout rounds in order to make way for new signings Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan. Gabriel Martinelli, who missed out on the original group-stage squad due to injury, has also been included after returning to full fitness. Despite being under 21 years of age, the Brazilian does not qualify as a homegrown player because he is yet to spend two years at Arsenal.
