Arsenal to hand Mikel Arteta new deal as Man City 'eye Pep Guardiola's replacement'

Arsenal are reportedly looking to hand Mikel Arteta a fresh contract at the club in a bid to fend off interest from Manchester City who may see the Spaniard as the ideal replacement for Pep Guardiola. The Gunners wish to wrap up a new two-year deal for the 39-year-old to secure his future at the club, according to the Daily Mail. Arteta - who worked under Guardiola at the Eithad as second-in-command from 2016 to 2019 - currently has a contract that runs until the summer of next year. But Arsenal want him to extend that period and put pen to paper before the end of this campaign, the report adds.
