Six sports stars who turned to politics including Romario as ex-Roma ace becomes mayor
Although football and politics are worlds away, the two have mixed in recent years - and former AS Roma star Damiano Tommasi is the latest name in a long list of sports stars to be voted into office. The former Italy defender - who won 25 caps for the national team between 1998 and 2003 - was crowned as the new Mayor of Verona on Monday after beating the previous incumbent, Federico Sboarina. Although many have attempted to follow Tommasi into the world of politics, few have managed to match the 48-year-old's feat of being voted into office.
