Giroud - Tough upbringing spurred me on

Olivier Giroud says that having to prove himself in the lower leagues helped him make it at the top level. The striker played in the second and third tiers of French league for Grenoble, Istres and Tours before signing for Montpellier in 2010 and finished top scorer in their title-winning season two years later. It was a different path to other France internationals, who mostly graduated through the country’s prestigious Clairefontaine academy, but Giroud says his tough football upbringing has made him the player he is today.
