The Champions League group stage always throws up a few surprises, often with at least one big gun that struggles to progress – after all, that's the nature of a "group of death". 

Sometimes, however, not even that is an excuse. With Manchester United currently in danger of an early exit from Europe's premier competition that few thought they'd struggle with when the draw was made, there needs to be a sharp turnaround if Erik ten Hag's side are to book their place in the next round soon.
