Arsenal transfer news: Club-record deal nears completion, battle with Liverpool for World Cup star and more - 13th November 2017

Sporting CP v Lyon - Friendly Match
Fekir's signing could break the club transfer record

Arsenal set to break club's transfer record for Nabil Fekir

The Frenchman has been in scintillating form this season with 13 goals so far and has caught the attention of clubs across Europe. Apart from Arsenal, Barcelona are also rumoured to be interested in signing the Lyon superstar.

While Arsenal's interest has been in the news for some time, the Daily Star now reports that the Gunners are in advanced talks with the French club. Arsene Wenger already broke the club record for another Lyon player in Alexandre Lacazette in the summer and is looking to break it one more time as per the report.

The London club are looking to pay around £60 million to sign the player, surpassing the £52 million the club paid for Lacazette. This move could see a single replacement in terms of quality for both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who are likely to leave. Further, the club could sell the players to fund Fekir's deal instead of losing both players for free in the summer.

In the case of Lyon, top clubs will come in for their star midfielder sooner or later and if Arsenal pay the price being quoted, then they can reinvest in the squad. Meanwhile, Arsenal have generally a good history with French players and Fekir can be strongly expected to become a quality addition.

Gunners locked in battle for Morgan Gibbs-White

Austria v England - UEFA European Under-17 Championship Qualifier
Morgan has already attracted attention from top English clubs

The midfielder won the U17 World Cup with England around a month ago and has received plaudits for his performances in the tournament. It's no wonder that several top English clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham are interested in the player, as per several reports in England.

Wolverhampton's hands are bound as they cannot tie down the player to a professional contract till he turns 18 in January. Further, the Championship club are not expected to stay put if the elite clubs offer around £5 million for the youngster.

The reports state Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are willing to pay the fee and this could lead to Arsenal missing out on a highly-talented youngster. Nevertheless, Wenger's track record with youngsters gives the Gunners a decent chance to convince Gibbs-White, who spoke about his success:

“I feel privileged to be part of such a big club. The players that the manager has brought in are unbelievable.”

Despite Wolves investing in several players and sitting at the top of the Championship table, it remains to be seen whether the player remains at the club in 2018.

Mourinho scouts Arsenal target Emil Forsberg

Sweden v Italy - FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier Play-Off: First Leg
Emil Forsberg is a wanted man across Europe

The Manchester United boss was in attendance when Sweden played Italy in the first leg of the playoffs for World Cup qualification. Mourinho was spotted alongside United and Sweden star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is recovering from a major knee injury.

Now, the Daily Mail reports that Mourinho was present to personally scout Sweden and RB Leipzig's star attacker, Emil Forsberg. The 26-year-old was one of the key performers in Leipzig's second-place finish in the Bundesliga last season, where he led the assists charts with 19.

The wide attacker was linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool interested in signing the player for around £20 million. Now, United rekindling their interest could worry Arsenal as Forsberg could prove to be an ideal replacement for Ozil, who to the Gunners' dismay, has been linked woth a reunion with Mourinho at Manchester United.

Thus, the London side could be locked in a big battle to prise the player away from RB Leipzig, especially with Ibrahimovic's presence at the Manchester club. If Arsenal do manage to convince the player to join Wenger's side, then it could turn out to be a top signing for the Gunners.
