Arsenal playmaker Jack Wilshere labels teammate Olivier Giroud as "one of the best strikers in the Premier League" after his late equaliser at Southampton.

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hailed teammate Olivier Giroud as "one of the best strikers in the Premier League" following his heroics against Southampton.

Giroud came off the bench in order to steal a late point for Arsenal at St Mary's on Sunday afternoon, after the Gunners had failed to respond to Charlie's Austin's early opener for a large part of the contest on the south coast.

"For me Oli is one of the best strikers in the Premier League when he's on it and he's on the bench, so it shows what we've got," Wilshere told the club's official website.

"There are a lot of games in December, so I'm sure he's going to get a start and if he's coming on scoring goals that's massive for the team and it was an important goal for him today."

Giroud has now scored 10 goals in the 80th minute or later in 2017 and shares the record with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for most goals at one club as a Premier League substitute.
