5 things we learned from Arsenal 5-1 Everton

Arsenal thrashed Everton 5-1 on Saturday, as Aaron Ramsey grabbed a hat-trick and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored on his debut.

It took just six minutes for the Gunners to start firing. Ramsey opened the scoring from a close-range shot. Laurent Koscielny added a second just eight minutes later, combining a header with fellow centre-back Shkodran Mustafi to make it 2-0.

Ramsey got on the score-sheet again with a deflected effort from the edge of the box, before the man whose name is on everyone's lips scored a goal on his debut, chipping Everton's Jordan Pickford for Arsenal's fourth goal.

The visiting side got a rare goal through substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin. But it was nothing more than a consolation, as Ramsey grabbed his hat-trick with 17 minutes left to play, ensuring the match ended 5-1 to Arsenal.

Here are five things we learned from an entertaining evening in London.

#1 Debut delight for Aubameyang

An entire universe of Arsenal supporters had their eyes on just one man, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. As the Gabon striker made his debut after sealing a club record £60 million move from Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal's new man was given a first start since arriving in England, replacing Alexandre Lacazette and justified his manager's faith in him by scoring his first goal as a Gunner. Aubameyang scored his side's fourth goal of the match, putting a sweet chip past Everton's Pickford.

Television replays may have confirmed that the Arsenal striker was offside, but Aubameyang could care less, as all that matters is that he's got his career at the Emirates off to a great start.

#2 Everton make unwanted history

For all of Arsenal's brilliance in this match, Everton were simply disastrous, conceding three goals inside the opening 20 minutes, before lasting only 18 minutes before letting in a fourth. Manager Sam Allardyce, who prides his side on being tough to beat wouldn't have been impressed.

That poor first half for the Toffees saw them make unwanted history by conceding four goals in the first half of a Premier League match for the first time in their history.

The fourth goal may have been harsh on them, given that Aubameyang was offside, however, looking back on the first three goals, Everton will not be pleased with the amount of space each scorer was given to convert their chance and should put in more compact performances in defence, if they are to avoid another big beating.

#3 Mkhitaryan can be Arsenal's creator in chief

Mesut Özil may currently hold the title of Arsenal's chief creator, however, evidence from the Gunners' performance reveals there could be a player ready to challenge him for that honor in Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The new signing from Manchester United made his Arsenal home debut on Saturday, putting in an impressive performance which saw him collect three assists for his side. Whenever the home team were in free-flowing attack mode, the Armenian wasn't far from the action and took the credit for Ramsey's first and third goal, as well as Aubameyang's debut strike.

Mkhitaryan will be looking to provide more of these strong performances for the Emirates faithful, adding to the creativity of teammate Özil and proving in the process just why he was a good purchase last month.

#4 Quiet return for Walcott

With manager Allardyce leaving forwards Wayne Rooney and Cenk Tosun on the bench, Theo Walcott was unsurprisingly Everton's biggest hope of a good performance against the Gunners.

The winger returned to the Emirates for the first time ever since a move to Goodison Park rumoured to be worth £20 million, however, couldn't make the impact he would've desired, as Arsenal's brilliance kept him and his fellow attackers largely quiet.

The only significant piece of action he was involved in came in the first half when he was sent through on goal and could've scored had it not been for a strong recovery tackle from Arsenal's Mustafi.

Walcott was brought off on the hour mark, receiving an enjoyable personal moment as he walked off with both sets of fans and indeed some of his former teammates applauding him. The Englishman will be keen to return to the form that helped him net two goals on debut for his new side, in the coming games.

#5 More of the same is required from Arsenal

This match was Arsenal as we know them: slick, smart, strong and clinical. Everton were poor but one can rightly make the argument that even if they were at their best, they still would've lost.

Beside manager Arsene Wenger's decisions, the biggest frustration for Gunners fans is their side's inconsistency. They tend to follow-up these brilliant performances with their most shocking ones and that is something they will want to put an end to if they are going to properly challenge for a place in the top four.

More of the same will definitely be required in the next few weeks, as they next face Tottenham Hotspur and a cup final against Manchester City either side of a two-legged Europa League last 32 clashes with Ostersunds.

Whether this victory over Everton was a simple flash in the pan or a promising turn around in form is sure to be determined in these upcoming games.
