Williamson - Everyone will be looking at us now

Leah Williamson

Having beaten reigning champions Chelsea 5-0 at Kingsmeadow last weekend, Leah Williamson is well aware that the result will draw a lot of attention from the footballing world.

Our stunning performance has sparked talk of a title challenge, but our young defender is remaining focused on the task ahead – starting this Sunday against Reading.

“Everybody will be looking at us now, so we just need to remember that it’s all about us,” Williamson told Arsenal.com.

“We’ve got stuff up our sleeve and things in our locker, so I’m just excited for you all to see what we’ve been working on. I think there’s some really good players here and the girls deserve everything they got [on Sunday].

“You need to play the best to know the level and be the best. We haven’t been in the Champions League and Chelsea have, so they’ve been getting that exposure for a couple of years.

“[Playing against top European sides in pre-season] was great for our preparation, but in a derby day away from home against a side like Chelsea, nothing can prepare you for that.

“We’re Arsenal and I think it would be really nice for [the fans] to believe that we can win the title again. It’s our job on the pitch, so pressure or no pressure, it really doesn’t matter to us because on Sunday we showed that it’s all about us and that’s all that we’re concerned about. We just want to prove that on the pitch.”
