Interview

'We move on... we're already focused on Leicester'

Emi Martinez was just four minutes away from keeping his 11th clean sheet in an Arsenal shirt.

Our Argentine stopper had made a string of fine stops during Wednesday's Europa League clash with Vitoria but then in the first minute of stoppage time, Bruno Duarte's overhead kick nestled in the top corner to salvage a late point for the hosts.

It was a bitter blow for Martinez and the team after a hard-fought game in Guimaraes. We caught up with our goalkeeper after the game and this is what he said:

on how challenging the game was...

It was quite difficult, especially in the first half. The pitch wasn't great and we couldn't find many good occasions to score. They had some good shots in the first half but we handled it quite well and defended well too. We moved the ball quicker in the second half and we were unlucky to concede in the end.

on the late equaliser...

We defended well. They had so many shots but we defended it well. We scored late so we wanted to keep the ball and score a second, but we didn't create enough chances to do that.

on his own performance...

I tried to keep us in the game. When you concede so late on, it's frustrating because you can go a whole 90 minutes without conceding and then in stoppage time you concede. It was a deflected shot and then headed back... the volley could have gone anywhere. It bounced into the top corner so it's frustrating for me, for us. At the end we had to settle for a draw.

on playing behind a back three...

It doesn't have any impact on my game, I just need to defend the goal. For me, it's the same whether it's three or four at the back. The manager decided to play with three at the back, so we'll support him and do what he says.

on how important it is to focus on Leicester now...

We're already thinking about Leicester. This game is finished. We know what we can improve and then we'll try to go to Leicester to get the win.
