Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is Arsenal's number one target to replace Unai Emery as head coach, according to a report.

Arsenal reportedly view Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers as the leading candidate to become the club's new head coach on a long-term basis.

Freddie Ljungberg will lead the Gunners into Sunday's Premier League clash with Norwich City having been installed as interim manager following the sacking of Unai Emery last week.

However, according to the Daily Star, the London giants want Rodgers to become their new manager, and the Northern Irishman privately views the position as his 'dream job'.

The former Liverpool boss enjoyed vast success with Celtic before joining Leicester, who will have the chance to move into second spot in the Premier League table when they host Everton on Sunday afternoon.

The Foxes have won nine and drawn two of their 13 league outings this season, with their only defeats coming away to Manchester United and Liverpool.

Wolverhampton Wanderers's Nuno Espirito Santo had seemingly emerged as a leading candidate to replace Emery, but Rodgers is allegedly viewed as the number one choice, with the Gunners prepared to wait until the end of the 2019-20 campaign to secure his services.

Arsenal have only won four of their 13 league matches this season and are currently 11 points behind Leicester in England's top flight.
