Chambers returns to light training

Calum Chambers has resumed light training as he steps up his rehabilitation from surgery on his injured ACL.

The centre-back suffered his season-ending injury in December’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea and isn’t expected to compete for a first team place until September.

An ACL injury is bad at the best of times, however, due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the 25-year-old has had to undertake 10 weeks of rehab on his own at home. Last week, he thanked the medical team for their help as they guided him through exercises for hours on end via video link.

Allowed back at London Colney for socially-distanced training sessions, it looks as though Calum is continuing to work on his fitness alone. Pictures show him jogging, stretching and sporting a very solid head of hair.

He will be injured within 4 days of coming back.

Public Elneny

Why? His injury record isn’t so bad

I’m sure he’ll take a bit of time to get back up to speed, and ACL injuries *can* derail careers. But no reason to be so negative and just assume he’s suddenly a crock now

Maul Person

Well that’s a dumb comment…

Martin Nunes

Have you ever known the negative troll to make any sensible comment?

Dan P

Great news, was playing really well before the injury and demonstrated a great attitude. Hopefully we can have him back for the start of next season to go
with Saliba, Luiz and Mari ( or new signing depending on how he gets on), wouldn’t be bad bunch of CB’s.

Tim

And Holding! We actually have a lot of CBs right now who are at least decent – just need one of them to take the next step.

Rocky07

Saliba is starting to look like a great bit of business, in the sense he’s now resting due to French league suspended, no chance of picking up injuries, will be raring to go, come the new season. I know he can’t play for us during this extended Season period, but come July 1st he’ll be able to train with the boys and get used to Arteta’ systems of play. Really excited to see him.

Mentalista

Now that you mentioned it, what’s stopping him coming to train asap? I think transfer windows are only valid for official matches.

Public Elneny

Yeah, with those 4 and maybe a 5th just in case (preferably Sokratis, with Holding loaned and Mustafi sold), we can probably get away without signing a CB this summer. Sign one next summer when Luiz and Sokratis are out of contract, or bring back Holding if he impresses on loan

Focus this summer on sorting out the CM and striker situations

prvhc

Why would Holding be loaned out after he’s proven he could do an excellent job for Arsenal ?

Public Elneny

He proved it 2 years ago, before his big injury. But his outings since his return haven’t been good at all. Arteta clearly doesn’t trust him at this point – signing Mari and bringing back Mustafi ahead of him

He badly needs regular game time, but next season we’ll probably have decent quality and depth at CB – he probably won’t get it here

SB Still

Darn, Mourinho made some comments about his main attacking players being unavailable due to injury and hoped for a pause in the league – he got his wish!

He would get all those guys fixed and back for action for any restart.
