Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi reportedly agrees to return to Ligue 1 with Marseille after Hertha Berlin opted against making his loan move permanent.

Matteo Guendouzi has reportedly agreed to join Marseille on a permanent deal from Arsenal.

The former Lorient man fell out of favour at the Emirates due to disciplinary concerns and plied his trade at Hertha Berlin for the 2020-21 season, scoring two goals and assisting three more in 24 Bundesliga appearances.

Guendouzi remains contracted to Arsenal for another 12 months, but he does not appear to have a future at the club and is expected to be one of several players axed this summer.

Marseille have been strongly linked with a move for the midfielder, and L'Equipe now claims that he has agreed to sign for Les Olympiens on a permanent basis.

Guendouzi was signed for Arsenal by Unai Emery in 2018 and quickly became a first-team regular with 82 appearances under his belt, but a fracas with Brighton & Hove Albion's Neal Maupay led to him being dropped for the final eight games of the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The Frenchman also missed Hertha's last four Bundesliga games with a metatarsal fracture and has been ruled out of the Under-21 European Championship knockout stages.
