Granit Xhaka returns to Arsenal training

Granit Xhaka returns to Arsenal training after contracting coronavirus and should be available to face Tottenham Hotspur on September 26.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has returned to training after recovering from a bout of coronavirus.

The Switzerland captain contracted COVID-19 during the most recent international break, after which the Swiss FA confirmed that he had turned down the chance to be vaccinated.

Xhaka remained in his homeland as he recovered from the illness, during which time Roma manager Jose Mourinho issued a vaccine plea to the former Arsenal skipper on social media.

Now, Xhaka has been seen being put through his paces in Arsenal training on Wednesday, although he remains suspended in domestic action for the time being.

The 28-year-old served the first of a three-game ban for his red card against Manchester City during the Gunners' recent win over Norwich City, and he will also miss fixtures with Burnley and AFC Wimbledon in the Premier League and EFL Cup.

However, Xhaka's return to training means that he should be available for the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on September 26.
