Arsenal director Edu is reportedly looking to maintain his lucrative spending habits in the January transfer window as he looks to bolster Mikel Arteta's ranks ahead of the Premier League run-in. The Gunners spent more than any other Premier League club on player recruitment over the summer, parting ways with around £150million in exchange for six new additions.

Edu is now looking to follow up with the statement signing of Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to The Mirror.

It is claimed that Arsenal have lined up the 24-year-old as Alexandre Lacazette's long-term successor and could be poised to launch a move for his services next month.

With that in mind, Express Sport takes a look at the Gunners side that could be tasked with mounting an assault on the Premier League's top four if Edu manages to add Calvert-Lewin and two other new recruits in January.

Goalkeeper - Ramsdale

Aaron Ramsdale has established an iron grip on his starting spot in recent weeks after a string of impressive performances since joining Arsenal over the summer.

He was beaten on three occasions by Manchester United on Thursday evening but has turned plenty of heads with his shot-stopping ability and impressive distribution from the very back.

The former Sheffield United man is likely to keep his place ahead of Bernd Leno, who has recently been linked with a move elsewhere, for the rest of the season.

Defence - Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney

Arsenal's last-gasp decision to land Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day back in August appears to have paid dividends, with the 23-year-old gaining plenty of admirers in the months since.

Fellow new arrival Ben White has also found his feet at the heart of Arteta's back four and will continue to partner Gabriel Magalhaes in the middle.

Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney will face a battle with Nuno Tavares for the left-back role, with the latter being preferred to start against United on Thursday.

DON'T MISS

Midfield - Partey, Sanches, Smith-Rowe

Renato Sanches has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal after declaring that he is ready to move on from Lille in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are believed to be keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium in order to pair up with Thomas Partey in the engine room.

Albert Sambi Lokonga will be able to provide cover for both players but will need to work hard for a regular starting role in the event of Sanches joining the club next month.

Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe has been a shining light for Arsenal this season and will likely be tasked with his side's creative duties for the remainder of the campaign.

Attack - Lang, Saka, Calvert-Lewin

Arsenal have also been tipped to pursue a move for Club Brugge winger Noa Lang, who has already managed five goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old would be pushing to start over Nicholas Pepe, who has struggled for consistency over the course of his two-and-a-half-year spell with the Gunners.

At the very top of the pitch, Calvert-Lewin's arrival would likely see Arsenal's attacking burden shared between himself and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the rest of the campaign.

Arteta's side have only managed to score 17 league goals since the beginning of the season and could reap the rewards of some additional firepower to boost their hopes of securing Champions League qualification after a six-year absence.

Possible Arsenal XI (4-2-3-1) - Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Sanches; Lang, Smith Rowe, Saka; Calvert-Lewin.
