Interview

‘It’s surreal… it’s a beautiful feeling’

Boyhood Arsenal fan Amani Richards has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with us.

The 17-year-old only joined us from Chelsea in March, but has already made great strides at the club, even featuring for our under-23s.

"I feel great, it's a surreal feeling, especially because it's my boyhood club and I grew up supporting them," he told Arsenal Media.

"Representing Arsenal is crazy, no words can describe it, it's out of this world!

"I had a lot of conversations with Per and many other people at the club and I just felt like they believed in me a lot and I felt like this was the best step for me in my journey.

"Playing for the under-23s at 16, that was a really big moment for me, because it really showed how much the club believed in me at a young age, so that was really important to me."

Amani has already experienced training with the first team at London Colney and there's one player in particular from Mikel Arteta's squad who he looks up to.

"Saka is a big inspiration for me, because he's doing it at a big level, on the big stage at such a young age, it's really inspirational," he said.
