Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale warned over conduct during matches by club legend

AARON RAMSDALE has been sent an important message by an Arsenal icon.

Arteta gives update on Arsenal's transfer plans ahead of Deadline Day

Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has warned Aaron Ramsdale about shouting at his defenders during games. Seaman has revealed it was part of a 'code' during his iconic stint between the sticks at Highbury because it 'doesn't gain anything'.

Many questioned Arsenal's decision to splash £30million to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United in the summer.

The 23-year-old had previously suffered relegation from the Premier League twice with AFC Bournemouth and the Blades.

But he has taken to life at Arsenal like a duck to the water and has recorded a series of impressive performances for Mikel Arteta's side.

Ramsdale's performances have helped lift the Gunners into top-four contention, but Seaman has pinpointed a part of his game he isn't a fan of.

Although the 58-year-old has been full of praise for Ramsdale's exploits so far, he has called the stopper out for breaking one of his 'codes' from his playing days.

On the Seaman Says podcast, he said: "I had this code with my defence; we don't shout at each other.

"If you make a mistake, we talk about it afterwards. He [Ramsdale] does need to be just a little bit aware. At the moment, he's not making mistakes.

"If he does make a mistake, then because he is having a go at his defenders, it gives them a right to have a go back at him. I don't feel that gains anything on the pitch."

Seaman's guest, fellow Arsenal icon Bob Wilson, agreed with his sentiments, but also admitted he's 'in awe' of Ramsdale.

"I would have one word with him at this moment. You're doing brilliantly, Aaron. The save at Leicester was sensational, one of the great saves ever," Wilson declared.

"But there is one thing you need to restrain from doing, and that is definitely yelling so publicly to those in front of you who make a mistake.

"It's the only criticism I have of him. His distribution at the moment at times is amazing as well. I'm sort of in awe of him.

"Although I was admiring the way he has dealt with the Bournemouth and the Sheffield United situations, I could never have predicted that he would hit the ground running the way he has and been instrumental in Arsenal being in a fourth or fifth position."

With Everton's struggles in mind and the World Cup coming up in Qatar later this year, Ramsdale will undoubtedly be eyeing the number one shirt for England.

Gareth Southgate's loyalty to Jordan Pickford could swerve that plan, but it will be hard to ignore the Gunners stopper if his upwards trajectory continues.
