Borussia Dortmund has produced some amazing talent over the years. Their eye for a young and skilled prospect is second to none, which has helped them become the well-known club they are now.

With the right nurturing and development, the German club has helped those players grow into some of the best quality prospects in the world. By doing so, they have attracted interest from top European clubs around time and again.

Borussia Dortmund are a selling club

In the recent past, Borussia Dortmund has seen some amazing players play for them and left to play for bigger clubs. In the process, they have made huge profits on their sale.

While most players have done well since leaving Dortmund, some have been seen struggling recently. On that note, let's take a look at those former Dortmund players who have lost a significant amount lately.

#5 Mario Gotze (PSV Eindhoven)

Mario Gotze graduated from Dortmund's academy and was a fine player when he was promoted to the senior team. Courtesy of his impressive performances, the German midfielder earned a move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013.

Despite achieving success with the German giants, Mario Gotze struggled with consistency and failed to have the same impact he had at Dortmund. He returned to the Black and Yellows in 2017 and after more than three seasons, he left to join PSV Eindhoven.

With the Dutch club, Gotze has so far scored seven times and registered eight assists in 35 league appearances. Considering his potential, the 29-year old is surely struggling to perform at his best.

#4 Henrikh Mkhitaryan (AS Roma)

Henrikh Mkhitaryan made a very good impression during his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, scoring 38 goals and registering 13 assists 72 league appearances in Ukraine. Borussia Dortmund acquired his services in 2013 and with his playmaking skills, the Armenian was quite an interesting player with them.

Since moving on from Dortmund, Mkhitaryan joined Manchester United in 2016 but it did not quite turn out well for him. After two unproductive seasons, he signed for Arsenal but couldn't find success there either.

This prompted the Armenian midfielder to join AS Roma in 2019 and has been there ever since. With 25 goals and 20 Serie A assists to his name in 78 appearances, Mkhitaryan is capable of achieving more given his capabilities.

#3 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Borussia Dortmund have had some fine attacking players in recent times and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of them. The Gabonese was signed by Dortmund in the summer of 2013 from Saint-Etienne in France.

He was an instant hit in the Bundesliga as goals came easily for him courtesy of his blistering pace and amazing finishing. In just 144 league appearances, Aubameyang scored 98 goals and registered 21 assists for Borussia Dortmund. His impressive performances attracted interest from Arsenal as the Gunners secured his signature in 2018.

After some fine displays in his first two and a half seasons in London, Aubameyang seems to be struggling from the last one and a half seasons. To add to his misery, it looks like he has fallen out of favor with current manager Mikel Arteta. There is a chance that the Gabonese striker might soon leave the Gunners and join a new club.

#2 Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)

After pursuing for more than a year, Manchester United finally managed to sign Jadon Sancho in last summer's transfer window. Borussia Dortmund made it very difficult for United to sign the youngster as he was an invaluable player for them.

With his amazing dribbling skills, creativity and link-up play, Jadon Sancho was a delight to watch with the German club. Since joining the senior Dortmund team in 2017, the English winger made a strong impact thereafter.

At Manchester United, Jadon Sancho has struggled to adapt to the physical demands of the Premier League with just one goal in 17 appearances. Although there is still time for him to change things around, the Englishman will need to step up soon to help out the Red Devils in attack.

#1 Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)

Out of all the players on this list, Ousmane Dembele spent the least amount of time at Borussia Dortmund. He joined the German club in the summer of 2016 after an impressive spell at Rennes.

In just 50 appearances at Dortmund, Dembele scored 10 goals and registered 20 assists. It was not just the goals or assists, the threat he possessed at a young age was quite lethal. This encouraged Barcelona to sign him in the summer of 2017.

Dembele's tendency to be prone to long-term injuries has immensely affected his Barcelona career. Given his potential, the Frenchman has quite underachieved in his career so far. With things between him and Barcelona's management going south recently, Dembele is certainly moving away from the Catalan club in this winter's transfer window.
