Arsenal chief Edu sends 'guarantee' to supporters in parting message to season

ARSENAL technical director has posted a message to the club's supporters following the disappointing end to the 2021/22 season.

Arteta 'in pain' after Arsenal miss out on Champions League

Arsenal technical director Edu can 'guarantee' the club and players did all they can to finish the 2021/22 season on a high. The Gunners beat Everton 5-1 on the final day on Sunday but missed out on Champions League qualification to Tottenham.

Arsenal blew a great opportunity to finish in the Premier League top four for the first time since 2016. They were four points clear of Spurs heading into the north London derby on May 12.

However, defeat to Tottenham and then Newcastle left their hopes hanging by a thread. Spurs only had to avoid defeat at relegated Norwich on Sunday to secure fourth spot and ran out 5-0 winners.

Edu has thanked the club's fans for their support this season. And he is adamant no stone was left unturned as they attempted - but ultimately failed - to get back into the Champions League.

Edu wrote on Instagram: "Thank you season 21/22. I have to say how proud I am to be part of this team.

"We went through different moments during the season, but in all of them we believed in what we were working on - especially in our players. I can guarantee there was never a lack of effort, dedication and commitment and hours of work from no one in the club to end of the season in the best way possible.

"Thank you to the fans for your great support (as always). I'm really looking forward to the season 2022/23. COYG!!!."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted his side were not good enough to get the job done. However, following the win over Everton, the Spaniard said he was still in a lot of pain to give an overall assessment of the campaign.

Arteta said: "The league table at the end of the season doesn’t lie. It’s true, that last year with 67 points, Chelsea was in the Champions League, we have 69 and we out of it.

"But that is the level, and the demands that this league has now. We tried to give to the fans, and what we knew the result as well, everything that they deserve, everything that they have done for us, and how much they have helped us to come much further as a club and as a team.

"I cannot assess today the season, I’m sorry. I am still in a lot of pain after what happened on Monday, and I would like to have a fair assessment on what we’ve done."
