Fans on Twitter slammed Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard for his lackluster display during the Gunners' 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest. Taiwo Awoyini scored the only goal of the match at the City ground.

The loss meant that the Gunners will finish the season as the second-placed team as Manchester City got crowned the Premier League 2022-23 champions. Pep Guardiola's side have 85 points from 35 matches while Arsenal have 81 from 37 games.

It was Mikel Arteta's team's second straight defeat as they suffered a 3-0 humbling against Brighton at the Emirates in their previous match. After the latest loss, fans on Twitter slammed Odegaard.

The Norwegian was far from his best against Forest. While he completed 64 passes, only one was a key pass. Odegaard also completed only one dribble and lost possession of the ball 10 times.

Fans reacted to the former Real Madrid player's display as one of them wrote on Twitter:

"Odegaard turning unto a City legend recently."

Another claimed:

"Odegaard went missing, n missed placed passes which one of the ended up being the 1 n only goal in the game which lost us the game."

While he has scored 15 goals and has provided eight assists in 43 matches across competitions this season, Odegaard hasn't been at his best in the last two matches.

Fans blasted the 24-year-old for his recent displays. Here are some of the best reactions across Twitter after Nottingham Forest vs. Arsenal:

Arsenal are set to offer Martin Odegaard a new deal

While Martin Odegaard hasn't performed at his best levels in recent matches, he is arguably Arsenal's best player. The 24-year-old is currently contracted until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Gunners, however, are reportedly looking to offer their captain a new deal. Mikel Arteta is expected to build on the team at its disposal for the next season. Odegaard should once again be the heart of the team.

At only 24, Odegaard still has the best years of his career ahead. While he has failed to produce in some games, there is no denying his quality. Hence, fans might not have yet seen the best of him yet.
