Gary Lineker could have joined Arsenal but ‘thanks heavens’ Tottenham came along

Tottenham legend Gary Lineker has revealed that he could have joined Arsenal before making the move to Spurs. Lineker made 138 appearances for Tottenham at the end of his career in England, scoring 80 goals in all competitions. The Match of the Day presenter left Barcelona in 1989 to return to his homeland, and says he was weighing up his next move. Taking a liking to the capital, Lineker says he was thinking of a move to Arsenal, who had won the First Division the year before. But the 59-year-old says that the Gunners didn’t make the offer he wanted, and he joined Tottenham instead.
