Premier League explanation for Arsenal not getting penalty for Pieters handball

The Premier League have offered an explanation for referee Andre Marriner and VAR Kevin Friend turning down penalty appeals after Eric Pieters’ outstretched arm stopped Nicolas Pepe inside the box. The Arsenal forward flicked the ball away from the legs of the Burnley defender after briefly claiming for a penalty from another incident, but was stopped from proceeding by the arm of his opponent. Despite a reaction from the away side, Marriner did not see any reason to give a spot-kick, while Friend did not think that his colleague may have made a mistake.
