Classic Transfer: Arsenal complete club-record fee for French star Sylvain Wiltord

On this day 15 years ago, Arsenal signed one of their most underrated players of the Premier League era. Sylvain Wiltord, having triggered the turnaround in the Euro 2000 final with the equalizer for France, completed a then club-record £13m fee from Bordeaux after weeks of negotations. Initially signed to deputise for Thierry Henry when the Gunners’ star man was unfit, Wiltord hit up an instant understanding with the French contingeny at Highbury.
