It is only natural that in the aftermath of a disappointing defeat, the immediate response is to try and find a scapegoat. “Sack the manager”, “buy new players”, “get rid of that waste of space” are familiar refrains after a season-changing setback, so it’s tempting to put Thursday’s Olivier Giroud backlash into that category.
