How English clubs were left behind in the Champions League

Amid the controversy of Chelsea's rancorous defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16, it almost went unnoticed that English clubs are facing another bleak year in Europe. Liverpool were bundled out at the Champions League group stage; Arsenal are facing a 3-1 first-leg deficit as they head to Monaco for their last 16 decider next week; and Manchester City are facing an almost impossible task in Barcelona after losing the first leg of their last 16 tie 2-1 at Eastlands.
