Arsenal set for underwhelming defensive signing after La Liga minnows pull out race

Arsenal have moved into pole position to sign Monaco defender Tisserand according to the Daily Star. Per the source, La Liga minnows Espanyol have pulled out of the race for the defender leaving the Gunners as favourites to complete the transfer. Tisserand has emerged as a defensive target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after being forced into the market to try and sign a new central defender after losing Per Mertesacker and Gabriel to injury. The Congolese international is a versatile defender who can play both in the centre and as a right back, and has spent time on loan at Ligue 1 sides Lens and Toulouse in the past.
