Gareth Southgate announced his first squad as England manager
In contrast to the somewhat haphazard of Roy Hodgson’s selections building up to last summer’s European Championships, the methodology is clear for the new England boss even if it means making some sizeable sacrifices. Despite naming 26 players in his long list, there was no room for Wayne Rooney even though he is set to be fit enough for selection at Middlesbrough on Saturday. And Theo Walcott is not selected either, despite finally hitting the goal trail this season. GETTY
