Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table while Manchester City were in EFL Cup action this weekend, although they were unable to take full advantage of their game in hand as they were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford. Tottenham Hotspur could have given their title hopes a major boost by beating Burnley, but they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Turf Moor to instead suffer a significant setback in their challenge. There was better news for the other half of North London as Arsenal's 2-0 win over Southampton saw them regain a spot in the top four, while at the other end of the table Newcastle United inflicted more misery on doomed Huddersfield Town.
