Mikel Arteta left 'shocked' by state Emery left Arsenal in after being sacked

Mikel Arteta has admitted he was left “shocked” but the state his predecessor Unai Emery left Arsenal in. The Spaniard arrived in north London on 20 December, with Arsene Wenger’s successor only securing nine wins from their first 25 games of the campaign. The Gunners’ former midfielder has since gone on to record a 57 per-cent win rate in 42 games, including FA Cup and Community Shield victories. Arteta inherited several problems at the Emirates from Emery, such as Granit Xhaka’s fallout with the club following an on-pitch rant at fans.
