Wayne Rooney was on just £90 a week when he burst onto scene with Arsenal goal

Wayne Rooney's spectacular winning goal against Arsenal in October 2002 saw him burst onto the Premier League scene. But at the time, the attacker was still only earning £90 per week having only been promoted from Everton's academy that season. Rooney had not signed any new contract when David Moyes opted to promote him to his first-team squad. Moyes' decision to give him a chance on the biggest stage proved to be a masterstroke, with Rooney scoring 15 goals over the next two years before earning a move to Manchester United.
