Arsenal confirm Takuma Asano’s Stuttgart loan extended

Asano joined Arsenal last summer from J-League side Sanfrecce Hiroshima but was sent on loan to Stuttgart because he didn’t qualify for a work permit. The 22-year-old’s contract included three clauses which would have allowed the Gunners to terminate the deal early - Stuttgart failing to get promoted, him playing fewer than 25 games or him becoming eligible for a work permit to play in England. But despite scoring five goals and providing four assists in 26 appearances to help Stuttgart earn promotion to the Bundesliga, Asano still did not qualify for a work permit because he has not played enough games in the last two years.
