Petr Cech deal shows Arsene Wenger is being ruthless in Arsenal spending

Petr Cech says he moved to Arsenal from Chelsea in order for first team football. The fact that Arsenal have just signed a 33-year-old goalkeeper in Petr Cech is not without precedent. In the summer of 2003 following David Seaman's departure, Arsene Wenger did just that, bringing in Jens Lehmann from Borussia Dortmund. The arrival of Cech from Chelsea, however, moves this latest iteration of Arsenal under the Frenchman into new territory. The fee is in the region of £11 million and by modern standards it's not exactly massive but when you consider that until August 2013, Arsenal's record fee was around £15m, it puts it in some context.
